THE SAPIENT SPARROW: conservatism for commoners

"What has always made the State a hell on earth has been precisely that man has tried to make it his heaven."–Holderlin

Say WHAT, Nancy?!!?

Health Care OverhaulToday I made myself watch the self-congratulatory press conference that Pelosi held to announce the House health care bill, with the oxymoronic name,  “Affordable Health Care for America Act”.

During the press conference she stated that the Bill would cover 96% of Americans.  Did I hear that right?  So I checked it out and found this at Breitbart from the AP:

‘Officials said the measure, once fully phased-in over several years, would extend coverage to 96 percent of Americans. Its principal mechanism for universal coverage is creation of a new government-regulated insurance “exchange” where private companies would sell policies in competition with the government.’

Okay, so that means that 4% of Americans would NOT be covered by insurance under this Bill, which translates into ~12 million people.  Now read the analysis of Dr. Donald J. Crane, Peoria, Illinois, from May 2009 concerning the real number of uninsured Americans under our present system:

“The number of uninsured roll off the tongues of politicians and those who share their agendas quite easily. When we hear those numbers, the image coming to mind is typically that of the working poor or unemployed U.S. citizen. Nothing could be further from the truth.

According to the “United States Census Bureau, Income, Poverty, and Health Insurance Coverage in the United States: 2007,” the figures are really these:

Some 45.7 million uninsured. According to the Center for Immigration Studies, 7.2 million are illegal immigrants. Another 2.5 million are foreign born and in the United States legally. About 8.1 million are under 18 years of age and 4 million of those were just added to SCHIP coverage by the Obama administration. Another 9.1 million earn a minimum of $75,000 per year, 8.5 million make between $50,000 and $75,000 (well above the poverty level).

So why worry about the numbers? Congress will develop programs to provide health insurance for the highest number they feel they can justify in order to grab the revenue. Do you doubt they will find ways to spend any excess? Creative accounting is the name of the game within the D.C. beltway and in Illinois, at least until Blago was ousted.

Based upon the latest data available, the true number is probably closer to 11 million that fit the definition of uninsured that most of us envision.”

Huh?  So we are going to spend nearly a trillion dollars, probably more, destroy our present system and end up insuring……drum roll…….almost the exact number of people we do now!  AND, here’s the kicker, leaving almost the exact same number of people still uninsured!

Leave it to the Democrats to waste a trillion dollars to help virtually no one.  Way to go, Nancy!  I can hardly wait for your next exciting idea.
